Shorts in Santa Marta
I'm planning a trip to Santa Marta / Rodadero in July. I'm guessing because this is a beach town I can wear shorts during the day, unlike MDE. Is this correct? Thanks.
I planning a trip to Santa Marta in July, probablay for 2 weeks. When you say El Centro, are you referring to Parque de Los Novios, which If I'm understanding correctly is the club district. Or are you referring to the area where Banannas is, which if I'm understanding correctly is in the "working class" area of Santa Marta. Thanks!Originally Posted by Dubman30
I were you, I would pass through Barranquilla and head straight for Santa Marta (about 2 hours from B'quilla). Santa Marta has beautiful beaches, the Rodadero resort area, an active night life and two nearby national parks (Tayrona and Sierra Nevada). You can find limited p4p along the malecon and in some of the clubs and bars. In these same venues, you can meet some nice local and vacationing non-pros as well.
This is a review on Renobar, which is the only P4P establishment I found in my few days in Santa Marta. Admittedly I didn't venture too far from my hotel. It is right near the main beach in the area with lots of tourist hotels. It is on Calle 10, near the corner with Carrera 3 (use google maps for reference). Only five minutes walk from the main beach area. It's definitely worth a visit.
It has plenty of girls ranging from ones you wouldn't touch to ones that are damn gorgeous. The music is incredibly loud, so if your spanish isn't great it will be frustrating, but you'll get by. There are very occasional strip shows and at random times a girl will come out and give a table of guys a show. The girls won't approach you, you need to approach them, or wave them down as they walk past. This is easier if you stand or sit near the bar, where they will walk to and fro from the bathrooms and to get themselves drinks.
Beers cost 6, 000 pesos and drinks for the girls (not always asked for) cost the same.
One thing to consider is that the guys looking after the place (at the door, bringing drinks, serving at the bar) are not your friends. The guy behind the bar will only give you half your change when you buy a beer. You'll need to ask another couple of times until you get it all back. What an asshole! It may be the difference of a dollar or two but don't stand for that shit! Plus as I left the second night the door guys asked for some money. WTF? I gave them a cold look and walked off. I wouldn't say the area is dangerous (there are plenty of police around) but you will get hassled for change by some of the locals.
I went two nights. The first girl was 80, 000 pesos. She said an hour but after half an hour there was a knock at the door. However, she let me finish, which was good. The second girl was 100, 000 pesos and a gorgeous, tiny 19yo. This place, is a when you cum your done for reference. I always pick the girls that smile at you and both times they were very sweet and nice. So make sure you tip them well. One of the girls I had even gave me her email and phone number, just to keep in touch.
They all live in bunk bed rooms at the back of the bar, so for their day off, they often stay in hotels. Therefore, although I've never tried, you might be able to pay for them for their night off, if you offer a nice hotel room and a relaxing time. I've never tried so I'm not sure, but it can't hurt to ask if you are interested.

I advise everyone to save there money, and go to places like Medellin or Cali. Stay the hell out of this garbage pit called Santa Marta and El Rodadero. This area is also much more expensive than say Medellin or Cali. I might add that it is also not very safe. I heard the other day that kidnappings of westerners, and robberies are really on the up in this area. Also, there might be a heavy police presence, but the police are known for shaking down westerners, and it also has been reported that several westerners have came up missing. I am not sure why anyone would want to visit this area when Medellin is much nicer and has eternal spring, and if you elect to go to Santa Marta or El Rodadero you are putting your life in danger.Originally Posted by Rudy Ray Moore

Some Colombians that I know would always say that Cartagena has the best beaches while others would always say that Santa Marta had the best beaches. Well eventually I went to Cartagena. The beach looked just like Barranquilla to me except a lot cleaner and you could actually get into the water. I still was not impressed, because both beaches are actually dirt instead of sand.
My next coastal destination was Santa Marta. Would it be paradise as I was told? Nope. Not even close. I stayed in El Rodadero, I did some diving out of Taganga, and I did some P4P hunting in Santa Marta proper. As Black Hawk (who was the one that told me in which hotel to stay in El Rodadero) said the water in Santa Marta proper does have a lot of trash and dead fish on the other side of the malecon. As for Gringo's take that El Rodadero is a resort area with an active nightlife. I'm not trying to flame but maybe he does not get out much because it is actually just a regular neighborhood that happens to have a beach on one side. As for all the Colombians who told me that Santa Marta and Cartagena had good beaches, maybe they have had nothing else to compare to. I mean your favorite food can't be prime rib if all you have ever eaten is hamburgers and bologna sandwiches. The last place in Colombia that I will try in search of a good beach will be San Andreas. I know being an island it is more expensive than the other places, on the other hand because it is an island it should have better beaches.
Here are pictures from Barranquilla, Taganga, and Santa Marta. I can't find my El Rodadero pictures
When I went to Santa Marta I was armed with a list but I became very frustrated walking around for over an hour and not finding the venues. Whether they were closed down or it was too early (6pm) I don't know. So I ended up on the malecon looking for chicks. I didn't see anyone who looked like they were working. So I went up to a local who was by himself and asked him where all the girls were. His name was Jose Thomas and he appeared to be about 28 years old. He said that the girls are usually on the malecon but it was too early. I asked him to take me around to some venues if he knew any. The first place he took me was across the street to El Velero del Amor. The girls there were pretty young. When I was quoted 80K for 1 pop I turned around and walked out. I asked him if he knew of any cheaper places.Originally Posted by Dalapeno
Then he took me to Renobar which was on Calle 10 with Cra 3. Although the door was opened the bar was not going to open until 8pm. I asked the owner how much the girls went for and he said that I would have to talk to them because each one makes their own price.
Next my guide led me to an intersection that had a couple of bars and told me that the girls in the bars (and hanging in front of them) were available. It was Calle 10 with Cra 4 next to Residencia Merida. Again there were not many because it was early. But we did go back by later and I banged a chick for 30K, which included 10K for the upstairs room in the hotel next door. Jose took me around for about 2 hours and when he couldn't find places he would ask someone else.
When I was done with him I gave him 10K pesos. He did not have a cell phone so he gave me his sister's phone number instead. I had intended to pass it along on the board but I didn't end up writing a report back then. Again as Dalapeno said, Spanish is pretty much a must.
P.S. Another thing that I wrote in my notes is Rest paisita pues hotel. I don't remember what it is or why I wrote it seeing that one year has already passed.
You can find Santa Marta street prostitution and erotic massage / brothel map from this site with street addresses:
There is also hooker and escort guides to other cities in South America. Cartagena is quite cheap though and Santa Marta also.
